What Is Graphic.ly?

According to their landing page:

"Graphic.ly is a place for all people that love the art and story telling that lives within the pages of a comic book or graphic novel, and enjoy nothing more than sharing that enthusiasm with their friends."

From what I've heard and seen, Graphic.ly is gearing up to take the comic book market by storm.

The reason why I'm highlighting this particular startup is because their co-founder and several of its team members are based in Middlesbrough, which is close enough to Newcastle upon Tyne, my home away from home.

Having seen Kevin Mann (Co-founder) present at SuperStartup, I'm sure this little company has every chance of soaring to great heights.

Note: Graphic.ly is a TechStars seed funded startup.

Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

The following is an actual question given on a University chemistry final exam.

The answer by one student was so “profound” that the professor shared it with colleagues via the Internet, which is why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law that gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that, if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell. Because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay constant, the volume of Hell must expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:
  1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
  2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Sandra during my freshman year, that “it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,” and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is endothermic and has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is extinct…leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being - which explains why, last night, Sandra kept shouting “Oh God!”

This student was the only one to recieve an 'A'.

Note: This story is well-travelled, so there are some different versions - the girl's name, for example, and the uni at which it was given, but it's still awesome!

Google Chrome for Mac - Flash Crash

I've been using Google Chrome for Mac since the final developer beta build, and haven't had any trouble with it, until now.

At least its errors are humorous:

That's a screenshot of a sidebar ad on YouTube after the standard flash plug-in decided to crash.
Since it only affected an ad on the particular page I was viewing, I'm not too fussed.

Social Media Guide For SME's & Startups - Delayed

Just a quick note to the good folks that follow such things, the guide that I am writing is currently on hold for a few weeks.

At the minute, I'm sifting through a mountain of paperwork for a new flat back in Newcastle as well as preparing for my new role at Apple.
So, things are a little hectic, but rest assured that I'll be right back on track as soon as I'm settled in.

Thanks for your continued support.

Do The Math

Between you and me, I'm not so sure daddy's going to be that happy to be home.

US President Barack Obama warned of "difficult days ahead" in Iraq as US troops withdraw from towns and cities, six years after the invasion.    Here a young boy reacts upon seeing his father return from a 12 month tour in Iraq.

Google's Nexus One - Total Cost Of Ownership

Yesterday saw the official release of the Nexus One from Google. This is the first time that any phone has been available for purchase unlocked and available for purchase at a discounted rate with a TMobile Contract.

With the smartphone wars continuing to heat up, the Nexus One is enters into a marketplace that is currently dominated by the iPhone 3GS and the gaining popularity of the Droid by Verizon Wireless.

BillShrink have put together a convenient overview of the overall total cost of ownership of the Nexus One vs. iPhone vs. Droid vs. Palm Pre:

Nexus One vs iPhone, Droid & Palm Pre

It's crazy to think how much we spend on phones over the years. I might revert back to bean cans and string.
