Missing CA
It's been two months since my visit to Irvine, CA and I'm starting to miss the American way of life.
Granted, I was on holiday so there wasn't much work going on aside from answering a few emails, but I can't shake the feeling. I met some really great people, saw some wicked things and shook hands with a long time friend, for the first time. I flew over to meet Jon Rettinger, a guy I'd come to know almost 3 years ago now, and yet had never met in person. He was gracious enough to put me up in his spare room / office, which made the trip affordable for me. Jon and his fiance are what I had envisioned the classic Cali couple to be. In this case, it was a positive stereotype.
They're a wonderful couple, and it was a pleasure spending some time with them out and about. Though it has to be said, they have poor sushi etiquette : ) I spent a total of ten days on the sunny side of earth, during which time I watched a Monty Python musical performed by Americans, witnessed first had Jon's phobia of parking and paid a visit to Disneyland, among other things.
I'm fortunate enough to have worked in some far corners on the big blue, but non quite match up to the fluidity and mindset of Irvine California. If you asked close friends to describe me, sentimental wouldn't come up in conversation, but I really do find myself missing the place and the people.
