Twitter Goes Down, Productivity Doubles.

If you’re one of the ~45 million mammals paying a visit to twitter.com over past month, then you’ll know by now that twitter has been down for just over two hours.

During the past two hours, the service has seen itself bombarded with a malicious DoS attack. They join a growing list of companies being targeted by these DoS attacks over the course of the past few weeks, most notably, the Gawker network last weekend.

This brings to light some interesting issues, not least the fact that the technology used to sustain the weight of the latest web trends simply isn’t up to the job of defending against these old school brute force attacks. Having pushed through major infrastructure updates aimed at helping Twitter move past their notorious brown-outs, this latest event hits hard at the service.

With it’s popularity and buzz at an all time high, today's down time will no dough have an impact on newly registered users as well as first time visitors. Though, with research showing that over 20% of registered accounts are bot scripts, maybe not.

So, how did you surviving the twiteclipse?
